Gave up on this one since I have some steel toed boots.
The idea here is to induce electric current in the traffic signal wires buried at intersections. Since my bike is mostly aluminum and plastic it doesn't trigger the vehical sensor like a steel car does...and I get to sit at lights until a car comes. So hopefully this 7 dollar speaker magnet from Radio shack will fix the problem. I also have two "cow magnets" which are a lot lighter but may not be strong enough.
The electro magnet pictured below was very light but at 9V got a little hot and wasn't even close to strong.
